President Message

This is a very special year for Textile and Fashion Federation with the election of a president whose main core business is in industrial textile machinery manufacturing. Y2006 is also a very busy one with the SFW2006 commencing on 31 st October 2006. This is our 19 th year and for Y2007, we are looking forward to a much larger program with the 20 th year celebration of SFW, incorporating Aftex 40 th year anniversary and hosting the Asian Fashion Federation event under the SFW2007 umbrella. Taff is fortunate to have a very committed group of current and past members and supporters and we are confident Y2007 will position Taff on the fore front as a main driver in the fashion and textile industry in this region.

Planning ahead for Taff, on the domestic front, one of the key initiatives is expand on the new membership drive and concurrently to harness a closer cooperation among the current members. This includes inviting textile related industry players to join us, such as textile machinery manufacturers, textile chemicals and dyes companies, textile research and development agencies and any interested textile companies in Singapore. Likewise, effort has also been made and discussion was on going with other textile association to seek a closer cooperation. Through the assistance from Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and by establishing frequent dialogue with the other textile association, Taff is ready and well position to act as an intermediary with the long-term objective of assisting the local textile and fashion industry. With one common platform for information exchange, this will allow common members to gain access to critical and important information and to better understand the various supports and assistance schemes granted by the government agencies.

On the regional front, Taff is looking into a wider scope of cooperation with regional textile and fashion association. The signing of the Asian Fashion Federation Nov 2006, which comprises key associations from China, Japan and Korea, will allow Taff to gain access to the regional textile and fashion arena. As the theme for SFW2006 dictates, “Gateway to Asia”, this is only possible and sustainable in the long term through a close cooperation on a regional basis. The opportunity is now, with the intense initiative of the government in developing the mega integrated resorts and other services.

On behalf of Taff, I would like to thank the various government agencies, IE Singapore, Spring, EDB, MICA, MOM, WCA for not only giving us the full support but most importantly the proactive approach in working with us. On the industry front, we would appreciate the industry players to actively participate in the various initiatives driven by Taff for the benefit of the industry.

Last not least, my sincere appreciation to Mr. Edward Ang, the honorary president for his relentless support and Mr. Chris Koh for being the secretary general that Taff will always look upon.

2006 为一个非常忙碌的年度， 2006 年新加坡时装周以 10 月 31 日落幕。 2007 年新加坡时装周步入第 20 个年头。由于今年也是亚细安纺拓会 30 周年及我国主办亚洲时尚联盟会议的一年，我们期望能将这两个项目融入 2007 新加坡时装周旗下。本商会很幸运地能拥有一群非常投入的成员和支持者，我们有信心 2007 年将能把本商会成为服装与纺织业本区域的主要区扭。

本商会近期的计划 , 是积极推动招募新会员活动和鼓励现任成员们建立更密切的合作关系。这包括邀请与纺织相关的工业者加入我们 , 譬如新加坡纺织品机械制造商 , 纺织品化学制品和洗染公司、纺织品研究与发展代理和任何对此活动有兴趣的纺织品公司。除此之外 , 我会也在努力地和其他纺织品协会商谈以建立更密切的合作关系。通过新加坡中华总商会的协助及我会与其他纺织协会频密交流 , 我会已准备好为本地纺织品和时装业给予长期的协助。身为一个资讯交流的平台，这将允许成员们能够得到相关的重要信息也能更好地了解由政府机构授予的支持和协助计划。

在本区域方面，我会将探讨与其他纺织品和时尚协会的广泛合作。在 2006 年 11 月所签署的亚洲时尚联盟（主要来自中国、日本和韩国） , 将允许我会通往这个区域性纺织品和时尚的竞技领域。就如 2006 年新加坡时装周的主题“迈向亚洲”所引述的 , 通过区域性长期的密切合作才能实现和持久。趁配合政府正在积极的开发大型综合娱乐城和其它服务项目，现在就是我们最好的时机。

我谨代表商会 , 在此感谢各个政府机构如新加坡国际企业发展局 , 生产力与创新局 , 经济发展局 , , 新闻通讯及艺术部，劳工部 , 人力与发展局，劳发局在彼此之间的合作上，积极地给予全力的支持。我们希望工业界都能活跃的参与本商会所推动的各项计划。
